Jamal Clarke

President 2016-2018

I am a 3rd year Politics and International Relations student, and very proud to be the founder and President of the club. I was a keen athlete in my school years, mainly competing in Long Jump, as Ealing Borough Champion for 2 years running. After a long hiatus, I now specialise in 60m, 100m and 200m, with a bit of Long Jump on the side, holding the club records for these events. My personal aims this year are to get into the semi finals at BUCS, and keep on improving my times. I vow to run the club smoothly, and lead us to success! I am known for my hardline approach, so if you want to improve and represent the club, make sure you don't miss training!

Chris Aoun

Vice President 2016-2017

I am a 4th year Master's student studying Renewable Energy; as Vice President of the club I am very happy to have the opportunity to get as many people involved in the sport as possible. I have always had a passion for sports, growing up playing basketball, football and then picking up athletics to compliment those sports. I am currently training as a sprinter, aiming to compete in the 400m event. Athletics can often be regarded as an individual sport but I want to ensure that it is a fun club with a strong team identity so that everyone can be involved!

Cross country captain 2016-2018

I am a 2nd year Conservation Biology and Ecology student and have been involved in athletics competing and coaching since I was 10. I enjoy running laps on the track but I especially love getting muddy in cross country! I ran for Bedfordshire when I was younger; now I represent Cornwall Seniors. My personal aims this year are to finish in the top 100 in BUCS Cross Country, and to beat my dad's marathon time of 2:27. As XC Captain, I want to encourage more people to take up long distance running (the best discipline), so that they can experience the beautiful views and trails of Falmouth!

Hakeem BUge

SOcial Secretary 2016-2017

I am a 4th Master's in Renewable Energy Engineering student; as social secretary I take pride in making the club's activities fun and as inclusive as possible. I organise social activities throughout the year which provide an opportunity for all members to familiarise themselves with each other in different social circumstances. My interest in athletics was sparked at university and I train as a sprinter over short distances (100m, 200m). My ambition for the club is to have it grow in size and for the members to continually regard themselves as part of a family.

Tom Newman

Vice-President 2017-2018
President 2019-2020

I am a 4th year Business student with the privilege of being the President of the FXU Athletics Club. Before joining the club in its first year, I wasn't that much of a runner but I fell in love with the sport and have gone on to represent the uni at BUCS Cross-Country, as well as the Cornwall County team and running my first marathon in Brighton in April 2018. This is entirely down to training with a club that's so relaxed but competitive at the same time. Coming back to Cornwall after my placement year, my main goals are to shave my times down further and encourage as many new members as possible to take up Athletics.

Cross Country Captain 2018-2020

I am a third year Press and Editorial Photography student, and I have been running competitively since 2012. My preferred event is Cross Country and I have won the U17 Devon and Cornwall Cross Country Westward League. I have consistently competed at a national level for both my county and school in cross county competitions. I am a dedicated runner with a wealth of knowledge on cross country running and training techniques.

Social Running Coordinator 2021-2022

I am a third year Zoology student, and I have been running competitively since 2011. My main events are 800m and Cross Country (however, I have competed in everything from 200m to 50km ultras) and I have won races both at county and regional levels, as well as being a scoring member of a team that came 2nd at a national level. Since joining FXU Athletics I have fallen in love with the trails around Falmouth and Penryn and this year I hope to share my knowledge and passion with runners of all abilities!

Charlotte Matthews

Social Sec 2020-2022

I am a third year Sportswear Design student at Falmouth University and have been running for the majority of my life at a range of standards and events. While I am currently taking a break for competitions and focusing on running for the enjoyment, I have a variety of experience from park runs to cross countries and elite level triathlons; I am always available for advise or reassurance to those thinking of competing, whatever the event! I will be a welcoming face to new members and casual runners, as well as inspiring that determined edge in more competitive runners. Whether you’re after a running partner to keep you going on the social runs or a motivator from the top of a hill session, I will be on hand for anything and everything! I am keen that everyone, beginner or experienced, should be welcomed into the society and made to feel they genuinely belong here.

Ottilie bright

President 2021-2022

I'm a second year student studying Conservation Biology and Ecology. My main events are Triathlon, X-Country, Long distance running and pretty much anything I can get stuck into. I have been competing in Triathlon and X-Country since I was 14. I have competed at a regional and national level, coming 2nd in the London Triathlon series and have run for London in the English schools XC, where we came 3rd as a team. I have a competitive streak, but I love a social run and going out with friends and finishing off a fun run at the beach. When I am not running around the place you will find me attempting to learn the ukulele.

cROSS COUNTRY CAPTAIN 2021-2022

I'm a third year Zoology student. In the past, I've competed in a range of sports including football, triathlon and swimming but decided to settle on running which I've been doing for the majority of my life. I've competed at county and national levels in both individual and team cross country competitions. I prefer x-country but I'm more than happy to compete on the track too. I particularly enjoy Parkruns as they are a great opportunity to go for a run with runners of all abilities and there's always one nearby. I'm really looking forward to running with FXU Athletics again now we're all back in Penryn.

mIRIAM lEYSHORN

sOCIAL rUNNING cOORDINATOR 2021-2022

I’m a second year English Literature student, and have lived in Falmouth my whole life. I’ve been running since I was little, but only discovered that I love running long distances in 2018. I’ve completed several local races including the Falmouth Half Marathon and Stormforce 10 miler (which were my favourites). I also ran my first 30k this summer, and now have my heart set on a marathon next year. I’m predominantly a road runner, although I love to go out and explore all the overgrown paths near where I live. I’m excited to encourage more people into running, whatever their ability, by offering gentler paced short and long social runs. There may be cake involved…

Amber faull
President 2022-2023

I am a second year Conservation Biology and Ecology student with a long history in sport as a competitive runner and swimmer, competing at inter-county and national levels. I compete mainly in the middle distance events and this year I’m aiming to add the 1500m to my (very short) list of club records for FXU AC. I have a pretty serious competitive streak stemming from a background of 5am starts and 17 hour training weeks but since joining FXU athletics I’ve come to appreciate the social and wellbeing benefits of running more. As the president this year I’m looking forward to making a fool out of myself in front of a whole new group of people and hopefully inspiring some of them to join the society in the process, competitive or otherwise!

Picture

Tatiana Thomas
Vice-President 2022-2023

I am a second year Exeter student, studying Renewable Energy Engineering. I've been competing in regional level athletics for four years now, specifically in sprinting (100m & 200m) and high jump. Before this, I was a national level gymnast, so I have plenty of experience competing abroad (with USA, Malta and Qatar among a few).
As Vice-president this year, I hope to create a friendly, exciting environment for both competitive athletes, and athletes who run for leisure. I will be aiding the President throughout the year, hopefully encouraging some great socials and track events.
In addition to Vice-president, I will also be undertaking the role of Track & Field Captain

Sasha Clarke
Cross Country Captain 2022-2023

I am a second year Geography student and I discovered my love for running at an early age through triathlon. I have been gaining competitive experience ever since, competing in my local Cross Country league, on to National races and road relays. I quickly realised that my strengths did not lie in track races but in the longer-distances so I am now focusing on Cross Country, 10k road races, and Half Marathons. My first (and hilliest) Half Marathon was Falmouth this year, which I hope even more FXU members will get involved in next year. Taking on the role of Cross Country Captain, I hope to spread my passion for hills, mud, and racing in a friendly team environment. I hope to demonstrate that Cross Country is much more than running in a field - the opportunities for exploring new places and team bonding are endless! I look forward to seeing FXU smash upcoming XC fixtures!

Ethan Brooks
Social Running Coordinator 2022-2024

I am a second year Geography student who is relatively new to running. I enjoy running the incredible routes around Falmouth and I am always looking to explore and find new routes which not many people know about. I'm excited to share these with everyone as running as a group is much better than running solo.

Picture

Emma Steedman
Social Running Coordinator 2022-2023

I'm a third-year Marine Biology student at Exeter with an affinity for long-distance running, both on road and trail. I started running in secondary school and quickly fell in love with the sport and the adventure of it. Although I compete in  5km+ cross country races for the club, my preferred distance is 13.1 miles; I've run in half marathons both in Cornwall and at home in Sussex. Although road running is fast and fun, it's also nice to slow down and enjoy nature with trail running, and by running trails up and down the country I've developed a soft spot for slowing down every now and then. This year, I hope to encourage a range of abilities to try running around the beautiful Cornish countryside whilst having fun in the company of like-minded people.

I've been vegan since I started university, and am passionate about food and fuelling an athletic lifestyle consciously. I would love to educate more members of the club this year on not only being a sustainable runner but also nourishing the body with the necessary nutrients it needs to run fast!
